Journal Square, Jersey City, New Jersey
Journal Square has traditionally been the center city of Jersey City. ANA and MSH Architects were commissioned to prepare a comprehensive rehabilitation plan for 254 acres surrounding the Journal Square PATH and transit station. An extensive public participation process was used to generate the vision plan and the recommended form-based code.
The visioning process generated a susceptibility to change map, traffic constraint and opportunities maps and locations for various building types and open spaces. Images on top row

The landscape plan included the covering over of the remainder of the exposed rail tracks to create a pedestrian green way that would extend throughout the project area and in the future connect to the Jersey City Embankment greenway. The plan called for the improvement of all local streets. Images on third row
Transportation improvements included a new public plaza and redeveloped PATH station, returning local buses to Kennedy, extending the light rail along the Bergen Arches to Secaucus station, the redesign of Kennedy into a multi use public space with light rail connecting to remote parking and Bergen Square neighborhood and the redesign of many of the local streets.
